Utf8ledger

Local text processing

Privacy

Utf8ledger performs the scalar decoding, UTF-8 encoding arithmetic and budget comparison in your browser. The calculator source does not deliberately send pasted text, its byte representation or results to a server. It does not use a remote analysis service, file upload or sign-in. It does not build your text into page URLs or native form submissions.

While the page is open

Input and current results remain in page memory while you use the tool. It does not use local storage or session storage to save text. On startup, the script explicitly restores the fixed public example and budget, including when a browser initially restores a form value. Reset does the same. Editing text or budget clears the previous summary, table preview, pager and export controls until you count again.

A browser textarea may normalize pasted line endings before the script receives the text. The calculator measures that received JavaScript string and makes no promise about original clipboard or file bytes. Browser extensions, device access, operating-system history and browser-managed restoration are outside this tool's control.

Copies and downloaded summaries

Summary copy uses the browser clipboard interface when available. If permission is unavailable, a manual-copy box displays the current summary. Downloads create a local text or JSON summary through your browser. These summaries contain all current totals and the model, without the pasted text or diagnostic table. They can still reveal text length and your chosen budget, so treat them accordingly.

Copies can remain in clipboard history, downloads folders or device backups. You control those actions and should remove unwanted copies yourself. The source's handler tests do not establish how your browser manages clipboard permissions or downloads.

Hosting and optional email

No analytics, advertising or consent-platform loader is active in this source release. The hosting provider still receives ordinary requests necessary to deliver the webpage, such as a requested path, IP address and browser details. Local processing does not make the network request anonymous.

The contact link opens your email application. Messages you choose to send use email and forwarding providers and are separate from local calculation. The published address is an existing shared forwarding alias; its private destination is not displayed. Avoid confidential text, credentials or personal records. A small invented reproduction normally explains a counting issue just as well.
